Hardanger Folkmuseum is the regional museum for the seven districts of Hardanger. The museum has since 1911 taken care of buildings, artefacts, crafts and traditions from Hardanger. The main museum in Utne is open all year, and has both permanent and shifting exhibitions. There is a shop in the museum with art and crafts from Hardanger as well there is a museum cafe.

On Skredhaugen, north of Lofthus, we find the collections of Bernhard and Ingrid Greve in beautiful surroundings. There are old houses and artefacts from the "Sørfjord" - a part of the Hardangerfjord. Bernhard Greve bought the place in 1918 and erected the first house in 1920. Berhard Greve (1886-1962) was a pupil of Harriet Backer and studied as well a year in Paris at the Henri Matisse academy. We also find artworks from Jon Bleie here.

Edvard Grieg (1843-1907) got his own composer cabin in Lofthus where he composed several of his most famous works, inspired by folk music and the beautiful scenery. The cabin has been moved serveral times and is now standing in the garden of Hotel Ullensvang.

Kinsarvik Church was build around 1160, and is the oldest stone church in Hardanger today. The church is of English roman style and is one of the oldest churches of this type in Norway. According to a myth the church was build by Scot's. They brought a model of a church that now is to be found at the "Historic Museum in Bergen". A copy can be found in the church in Kinsarvik as well.

Hardanger Bestikk is the larges producer of cutlery among the Northern countries. With 65 employees, its one of the most important work places in Ullensvang. Ullensvang Church was probably built between 1250 and 1300, and is situated by the Hardangerfjord. The church is probably the motive for the well known painting by Tidemand and Gude "The wedding journey in Hardanger".

The church in Utne was drawn by the well known architect Peter A Blix (1831-1901). It was erected by Ivar I Opendal and Jakob J Urheim for 21.000 NOK in 1895.

Skipastò is the site of a boat-house, where a Viking ship, or"leidang" was situated when not cruising. "Leidang" corresponds to "lething" or the Anglo-Saxon "fyrd". It constituted a system of coastal fleets with the aim of defence. Normally, the fleet was on expeditions for two or three months during the summer. All free men, i.e. the peasants, were obliged to contribute to the leidang. The seamen had to provide for their arms and service individually

Plantetunet lays at Huse in Kinsarvik. Here you can buy plants that can be used for spices, tea, medicines, colouring and protection from insects. There is an own garden that demonstrates the garden and each species. 1 year old herbs are also sold. For visits outside the season, contact for an appointments.

Ullensvang research centre was founded in 1949 as a local research station for fruit and berries in Hordaland and Rogaland. In 1984 the station became a part of Norwegian institute for plant research, now called Bioforsk.
